Why Colorbond is the right choice for a Perth patio roof
Perth's climate is demanding on building materials. High UV, salt air in coastal suburbs, and hot dry summers all shorten the life of cheaper or poorly specified roofing.
Pre-painted from the factory
Colorbond is painted before it is roll-formed. The paint is baked on, not applied to a cut sheet in a shed. That means no cut-edge rust risk and a consistent finish across every panel.
Designed for Australian conditions
BlueScope's Colorbond range includes specific grades for coastal environments and harsher exposure zones. We specify the correct grade for your location - not the cheapest option that might do.
Low long-term maintenance
A correctly installed Colorbond roof over a steel frame needs nothing more than an occasional hose-down to clear leaf litter and debris. There is no re-painting cycle.
Coastal Perth suburbs
Properties within 1km of the coast or tidal water are in a higher corrosion zone. We specify Colorbond's coastal-grade steel for these builds. If you are unsure whether your property qualifies, we check the ABS and BlueScope zone maps at the consult.
Colorbond colour guide for Perth patios
| Colour group | Popular options | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Neutrals | Surfmist, Shale Grey, Dune | Light brick or render, Hamptons-style homes |
| Darks | Monument, Night Sky, Ironstone | Charcoal render, dark brick, modern homes |
| Earthy tones | Jasper, Terrain, Woodland Grey | Weatherboard, warm-toned brick, bush settings |
| Classic whites | Surfmist, Dover White | Federation homes, white render, Hamptons |
| Heritage tones | Evening Haze, Cove | Heritage and character properties |
We bring physical sample panels to the consult. Screen colours are not reliable guides to how Colorbond looks in the light conditions of your specific property.
Australian BlueScope steel and Colorbond - nothing else goes on your home. Not imported steel, not generic sheeting.

Profiles and applications
The profile you choose affects rain run-off, internal height, and visual character. We are dome specialists but we build in all three profiles.

Frequently asked questions
It is the option we recommend and build with. Polycarbonate sheet is an alternative for applications where light transmission is the priority, but it discolours over time and we do not use it as a primary roofing material.
Yes. BlueScope offers a manufacturer warranty on Colorbond steel. The warranty period depends on the product grade and the corrosion zone for your location. We pass the manufacturer warranty through to you at completion.
The pre-painted finish is part of the steel substrate - it cannot be re-painted in the field without voiding the manufacturer warranty. Choose your colour carefully at the consult stage. We recommend physical samples in situ.
We use structural grade BlueScope steel throughout the frame. Specific grade and section sizes are determined by the structural engineer for each build based on span, load, and wind zone.
Standard corrugated iron (zincalume or galvanised) is uncoated steel that relies on the zinc layer for corrosion protection. Colorbond adds a factory-baked paint layer over the steel substrate, which provides additional protection and a consistent colour. The two are different products with different performance profiles.
Very little. An occasional rinse to clear dust and leaves is usually all it needs, and rain handles most of that on exposed sections. There is no repainting or sealing required for the life of the structure.
Less than people expect. The steel is fixed to a solid frame rather than left to drum, and the curved dome profile helps disperse sound. If you want it even quieter, we can discuss an insulated blanket or lining option at design stage.
Lighter colours such as Surfmist and Dune reflect more heat than dark tones like Monument, so they tend to keep the space cooler in summer. We talk through the trade-off between look and heat at the consult and bring samples so you can compare.
